Charges have been stayed against two people accused of running a marijuana grow operation in the city.
Hsiao Chen Chen, 52, and Tak Cheong Ou, 53, were arrested Feb. 23, 2010 when RCMP seized 15 kilograms of marijuana bud and 513 fully-grown marijuana plants from a 3600 block of Chartwell Avenue.
However, charges were not sworn until September 2012 and a trial before a B.C. Supreme Court Justice did not begin at the Prince George courthouse until April 27. A spokesperson for the federal Public Prosecution Service of Canada said a mistrial was declared and following that decision, Crown counsel determined that it was no longer in the public interest to proceed with a prosecution.
The spokesperson declined to say why the delays occurred.
The stays were entered on the same day that Kien Fang Cheung, 51, was sentenced to a one-year conditional sentence followed by six months probation for her role in the grow op.
