Prince George RCMP traffic services members issued about 40 violation tickets and impounded one vehicle during a speed enforcement campaign this week on University Way.

Average speed of the violators was estimated to be 95 km/h in the 70 km/h zone.

One offender was recorded driving at 126 km/h. The 20 year old male driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket which comes with a $368 fine and a seven-day vehicle impound.

"These speeds are dangerous and unacceptable" said

Cpl. Corey Eggen. "They clearly show that many drivers have no respect for other users of this road, including walkers and runners."

One 'N' driver that was pulled over, actually told the officer that he should "write the ticket quicker for students," as they are "in a hurry to get to class," RCMP said.

Drivers convicted of excessive speeding are also subject to driver risk premiums from ICBC for three years. In addition, all violators could face a driver's licence review from the B.C. Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.

Members were on the scene for one hour on each of Tuesday and Wednesday.
