A Prince George man was sentenced Wednesday to two years probation for his involvement in a high-profile theft from a supermarket last year.
Rodney Alexander Courtoreille, 28, was issued the term Wednesday for an April 19, 2016 incident at the Parkwood Save On.
He was alleged to have attempted to steal a basket of meat and pull a knife on an employee who confronted him, Prince George RCMP said at the time. He dropped the basket and fled on foot with a woman who was waiting for him, RCMP had said.
An image of Courtoreille from one of the store's security cameras was subsequently made public and he was arrested two days later.
Courtoreille was sentenced in provincial court on counts of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose - downgraded from the original charge of robbery - theft $5,000 or under and two counts of breaching an undertaking or recognizance.
Courtoreille pleaded guilty to the counts in September.
He was also ordered to pay $800 in victim surcharges and issued a 10-year firearms prohibition.
A charge of theft $5,000 or under against co-accused Cathy Stephanie Wilson, 27, was stayed in January.
