Charges of break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence and theft under $5,000 were stayed against a Prince George man, who pleaded guilty Jan. 27 to breaching a release order.
Provincial court Judge Peter McDermick sentenced Charles McFarland Williams, 38, to time served, ordered him to be on probation for six months and have no contact with a woman.
Court heard that RCMP officers were acting on a complaint of a possible domestic dispute in a mobile home unit on May 5, 2024.
Williams was found in the presence of a woman who a judge had previously barred him from contacting.
On Jan. 16, 2025, the woman called police to say her ex-partner had broken into her premises.
However, she admitted that Williams had a key, that they shared the residence and he was unaware she was present.
“It’s impactful on some level that the substantive charges have been dropped,” McDermick said.
McDermick agreed to the joint submission from Crown and defence lawyers for 15 days time served and a “leave upon request” order against Williams, should he encounter the woman and an associate.
In February 2022, another judge sentenced Williams to two years less a day and 30 months probation for injuring a neighbour with an aluminum crutch in April 2019.
