Man faces robbery, assault charges

Prince George police have made an arrest in a series of violent attacks over the last two months.

Prince George resident Christopher Ryan Russell, 25, faces a series of charges including attempted robbery, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, obstructing a peace officer and break and enter to commit an indictable offense.

The incidents began the morning of Sept. 28, when RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon that had occurred in a house on Athlone Avenue.

Attending officers found a man bleeding from the head as a result of being struck with a blunt force object. The victim was treated in hospital and has since recovered. Police believed it to be a targeted attack.

Early PM Nov. 23, an assault with a weapon was reported at a Fraser Crescent residence, where police found a man and woman suffering from the effects of a noxious substance, most likely bear spray.

A considerable amount of cocaine believed to belong to the suspect, who fled before police arrived, was located and seized.

"Investigators believe all three persons were known to each other and the attack followed a disagreement," said Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.

Shortly before 2 p.m. the same day, RCMP responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the parking lot of a Fifth Avenue gas station.

A man had tried to steal another man's cell phone by brandishing a can of bear spray and threatening to stab him. The suspect fled the scene but was picked up by police a short time later.

Douglass said it didn't appear as though the suspect and victim knew each other.

Russell, originally from Red Deer, Alta., appeared in court Monday and will stay in police custody until his next court appearance on Dec. 11.
