An 18-year-old man died at the scene when the vehicle he was driving rolled over early Tuesday morning on Highway 16 by the Augier Main Forest Service Road 20 kilometres east of Burns Lake, RCMP said.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene at about 5:55 a.m.

"The investigation is still in its early stages and the cause of the collision is undetermined at this time," RCMP said in a statement issued shortly before 10 a.m.

Highway 16 remained closed in that area and is expected to reopen sometime between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m, according to DriveBC. There is a detour via Tibbetts Rd. and Augier FSR with a pilot car for all traffic.

A second incident, meanwhile, has closed Highway 16 in both directions at Fraser Lake. There is a detour in place and the stretch is expected to reopen at 6 p.m., according to a DriveBC update.
