A 47-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon and is in custody following an apparent domestic dispute that escalated into a gunshot and a house set on fire.

Police blocked off a section of Faulkner Crescent in the Foothills neighbourhood shortly after 1 p.m. after receiving a call from a nearby gas station, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.

They found a vehicle with a single bullet hole and then converged on a home in the 700 block of Faulkner where a man gave himself up without incident, but not before smoke started billowing out of one of the home's windows.

A firearm and ammunition were recovered and police cleared the home to make sure there were no other suspects before firefighters moved in and put down the blaze, which they believe was deliberately set, Douglass said.

"An initial investigation indicates the incident is related to a domestic dispute," said Prince George RCMP Staff Sgt. Brad Anderson. "This investigation will include follow up by our domestic violence unit."

Had the man not been arrested in short order, Douglass said police were ready to alert the school district in case the man had decided to make his way to a nearby school.

"But that was purely precautionary, there was no indication he was going anywhere," Douglass said.

There were no reports of injuries.
