A 42-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a Vanderhoof woman and will appear in court via video today (April 14).

According to the North District RCMP, Justin Johnston was arrested on Monday (April 13) in the South Okanagan for the murder of Joy Morris.

The 62-year-old was found dead in her own home after Vanderhoof Mounties were called to check on her well-being in early March.

The investigation was deemed a homicide and police say the parties involved were known to each other.

In a release, RCMP say there’s no further threat to the public.

The North District RCMP’s Major Crime Unit led the investigation and received help from the Prince George RCMP Forensic Identification Section, Vanderhoof RCMP detachment, Penticton RCMP detachment and the South East RCMP Major Crime Unit.

Johnston was arrested in the South Okanagan as that’s where he had recently moved.
