A total of $3,000 from community donations has been raised with a goal to increase that to $12,000 to pay airfare of his four family members still living in the Republic of Guinea in Africa.

Key Life Financial Group Inc. and Dominion Lending Centres are organizing fund-raising events over the next few weeks to meet an August deadline when the family's legal papers like photos and medical will expire, and they will have to begin the process again at more expense.

The community can make donations at the Bank of Montreal on West Central Street. The account number is 3259-118.

Tounkara, who owns the Africa Cafe in Prince George, has not seen his family for 11 years which is the time it has taken him to gain his Canadian landed immigrant status.
