Major forest fire hazes PG

Firefighters from the Prince George Fire Centre are working to contain a fire located 20 kilometres east of Vanderhoof. The cause of the fire is not yet determined and is estimated at 880 hectares.

Firefighters from the Prince George Fire Centre are working to contain a fire located 20 kilometres east of Vanderhoof.

The cause of the fire is not yet determined and is estimated at 880 hectares. Thirty wildfire fighters worked to build guard around the fire yesterday, supported by helicopters, airtankers and heavy equipment. An incident management team and additional crews are en route to assist with fire suppression.

The smoke is visible from nearby communities. Traffic delays and detours are in effect to protect public safety.
