The latest edition of Westworld Magazine drives home the best features of downtown Prince George.
As the official magazine of the B.C. Automobile Association, Westworld frequently mentions Prince George and region. Their last edition had items on the city's farmers market, Studio Fair, Barkerville, and prominent northerners Wade Davis and Jaalen Edenshaw opining about great hiking on Haida Gwaii and Todagin Mountain.
This season's edition (Westworld publishes quarterly) went further. It makes mention of the Cold Snap music festival in a listing of B.C. winter cultural events, but on Page 12 the magazine devotes a full page to Prince George's downtown.
The page features a colourful snapshot of W.D. West Studios, one of Third Avenue's most architecturally ornate boutiques, plus a photo of Pacific Western Brewery brewmeister Henryk Orlik hoisting a pint of local craft beer.
The article is broken into sections that quickly list some of the high-points a traveller might enjoy if they happened to be passing through, or a local resident might want to discover for daily use. It also gives a quick, unsanitized overview of the city's checkered origins.
Although the magazine ignores northern skiing destinations altogether in a special snapshot about B.C.'s slopes, it presents a a six-page super-feature on the first ceremonial totem pole raised on Haida Gwaii in 130 years.
