Police in Mackenzie are investigating a possible arson in the community. On Monday, August 7 at 9:06 p.m., Mackenzie Fire Department notified the RCMP of a bush fire near Cicada Road.
RCMP attended with the fire department and saw that a ski cabin was on fire. Police spoke to witnesses at the scene who said they heard a motor vehicle in the area but no description could be provided.
The fire was quickly contained from spreading further into the bush but the cabin was destroyed. There was no one inside of the cabin at the time and damages are estimated to be $40,000.
Police suspect this fire may have been intentionally set and hope the public can help further the investigation.
