Machete story cut down to size

Police were told two arguing neighbours had a machete involved in their altercation.

A swift set of officers responded to the incident, but found no credence to the claims a weapon was involved.

"We received two complaints, actually," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "The first one pertained to a quad apparently being driven on residential streets in the neighbourhood [2200 block of Spruce Street]. One party reported the other party.

"About half an hour later, a party associated to the first complainant called us to tell us the two initial parties were involved in an altercation outside on the street and the one had a machete."

The one said to possess the machete had left the area by the time police arrived, but was quickly traced to a home nearby. At no time did any clue emerge substantiating the claims of a machete.

"Nobody was hurt, nobody was assaulted. It was all a verbal incident," said Douglass.

Furthermore, all parties involved have been engaged in ongoing neighbourhood issues between one another. Police will continue to monitor the situation and swiftly intervene in any altercation involving a weapon.

The public was encouraged to ensure disputes between neighbours be figured out calmly, perhaps with the help of outside mediation, rather than gather emotion to the point of threats and physical violence.
