"Looking for love is built into all of us, it doesn't fade because our bodies do," said Mike Krafta, who's 60.
Krafta has been married twice, once for 15 years, the next for 17 years.
He's been single for about six years now and he started with the internet dating sites just to see how it would work out.
It hasn't so far.
"It seemed like it was one of those things where one of us always liked the other way more," said Krafta, who is self-employed auto body man. "I had one lady who wanted to move in with me after we dated for about five months. I just wasn't ready for that. I wanted to take it much slower than she did."
Others would say all the right things in e-mails but when it came to the face-to-face he'd get stood up.
"I don't understand why people would waste their time or someone else's if they're not really interested," said Krafta. "Sometimes we'd agree to meet and they wouldn't show up. How do you know you have a connection unless you at least meet for coffee?"
Krafta said he met some ladies through mutual friends.
"But I felt like I was back in high school," Krafta laughed. "I liked a lady a lot and she just didn't feel the same way and sometimes I was just too chicken to ask them out. Believe it or not it's still like that when you feel that magnetic attraction to someone. It's hard to explain why, but it could be the thought of being rejected. After a while you think it would just be a piece of cake but it doesn't change -- no matter how old you are."
Krafta is still looking for that one special lady.
"Sometimes I wonder if I'll meet her," he said. "Can I find the one that I can connect with and they'll feel the same? But you know how things happen, one day it's just there when you least expect it. It's always in the back of my mind. I don't do the Internet thing steadily. I had to take a break because my mind boggled a bit. I don't like when people lead you on. And those ones, from everything I knew and the pictures they sent and the things they wrote, it was like 'yeah, I'd like to meet her, she seems really nice' and it just didn't happen."
Everyone tells Krafta he is a very young 60 and looks like he's no more than 50 so he's looking for that energetic partner.
"I don't feel my age," he explained. "I do all the things I used to do. Anything from drag racing to dragging a hook around the lake. I'm outdoorsy and I am happy to do anything outside. It's hard to find a woman that is into really outdoorsy stuff. As time goes on I hope I get a little closer, meet her and we'll both just know and that'll be it."
