What police say has been a "notorious location for crime in the downtown core" was the scene of a string of drug-related arrests on Friday night.
It began at 9:15 p.m. when Prince George RCMP crime reduction team members executed a search warrant on the London Hotel, on Third Avenue near Victoria Street and arrested two women allegedly in possession of a controlled substance. One man was also arrested.
While dealing with those three, two more showed up, unaware the police were there.
One was quickly arrested after a brief struggle and $1,700 of crack cocaine was found on him, according to police. The second was apprehended a few blocks away following a brief foot chase and found in possession of a small quantity of cocaine.
Later the same night, as police continued their search, a male was found in the hallway of the same building high on drugs and brandishing a hatchet. They also found he had recently suffered a stab wound to the back and was taken to hospital after he was arrested.
"The London Hotel has become a notorious location for crime in the downtown core and has been the subject of more than 150 police files since the fall of 2008," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Kent McNiell said in a press release.
"Several local business owners have complained about ongoing drug activity inside the hotel."
RCMP will be following up with city hall and the property's owner to address ongoing issues, McNeill said.
