Local voice part of national ad campaign

Prince George Telus employee Leah Coghlan has become the voice for a new promotion by the national telecommunications company.

Prince George Telus employee Leah Coghlan has become the voice for a new promotion by the national telecommunications company.

Coghlan, a social media specialist for Telus, was one of several employees chosen to provide voice talent for the company's radio advertising campaign. The radio spot promoting Telus' Optik TV program is currently running in communities across B.C. and Alberta, Coghlan said.

"It's in all the big markets. I've had people in both provinces tell me they've heard it," she said.

Coghlan has been with Telus for five years -becoming a social media specialist after a year in customer service.

However, it's not her first experience with radio and media. She worked in newspaper and for Vista Radio before switching careers, she said.

Although she was a copy writer she voiced commercials to provide the local stations with an additional female voice.

Coghlan said the process to recording the ad was a whirlwind. After auditioning she was contacted by Telus' marketing staff and asked if she was still interested.

"I ended up flying down [to Vancouver] the very next day... and I got to go and record at The Warehouse Studio," she said.

The Warehouse Studio, founded by Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams, has recorded songs and albums for groups including AC/DC, Metallica, Nirvana, R.E.M., The Tragically Hip, Nickleback and Slayer.

While Coghlan said she hasn't been offered any additional advertising work with the company, "if the opportunity were every provided to me, I will take it."
