More than $40,000 was presented to several local organizations during the Prince George Community Foundation's fall reception at Exploration Place Tuesday.

The recipients included the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum, the Child Development Centre, College of New Caledonia, Cranbrook Hill Greenway, Fraser Fort George Museum Society (The Exploration Place), Hospice Endowment Fund, the Prince George Public Library, Community Arts Council, the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, Springboard to Success scholarship fund SD 57, Theatre Northwest, Two Rivers Gallery and UNBC.

"We are pleased to recognize these organizations' contributions to our community and recognize the tremendous support they receive from their dedicated volunteers," said Lorraine Grant, Community Foundation president.

Although the market has slipped recently, investments have done well in the past fiscal year and the foundation is happy to return the income earned on these funds to those in the community who are making a difference, Grant added.

The Prince George Community Foundation continues its commitment of contributing $5,000 from the proceeds realized from the Citizen of the Year event to an endowment fund in the name of the current Citizen of the Year - Darrell Hubbell.

Prince George Community Foundation received a cheque for $48,073.65 from the former CI Community Interest Society. For more than 30 years this group held funds within their society and, as it closed, donated the funds to the foundation.

The funds are designated for the 94X Safe Streets Fund, a project to keep city streets safe for youth.

"We are happy to be able to further the goals of the society by accepting the funds," said Grant. "This shows the confidence the CI Community Interest Society has in the work the Prince George Community Foundation does in the community."

The Prince George Community Foundation also announced three new members to its group of honorary directors. Don Bassermann, Brian Brownridge and Elizabeth MacRitchie were acknowledged for their ongoing efforts and support of the foundation.

"These individuals along with our many generous donors, grant recipients and dedicated board of directors truly do help move our mission forward," said Grant.
