A Prince George man has filed a lawsuit in B.C. Supreme Court against BC Hydro over the appearance of its Chief Lake substation.

In a notice of claim filed last week at the Prince George courthouse, Peter Houghton alleges Hydro's decision to remove all the vegetation, which provided a screen for the substation, has made the property "unsightly."

Houghton, who lives on a neighbouring property, is seeking compensation from Hydro, claiming the removal has decreased if not eliminated the enjoyment of his own land and significantly reduced its value.

Hydro has not filed a response to the claim and the allegations have not yet been tested in court.
