Prince George lawyer Ben Levine will represent the federal Liberal Party in the Prince George-Peace River riding, the riding decided yesterday. He ran uncontested.
Levine said he's running because he feels the Conservative Party hasn't done enough to support Prince George.
The Gateway initiative was conceived by the Liberal Party and the Harper government hasn't done nearly enough to develop that policy or relationships in Aisa, he said.
He also contends the Conservatives should have done more to strengthen Canada's position with the U.S. during the softwood trading dispute.
He said he wants to focus on making the region an economic powerhouse and ensure more partnership between the government and private sector.
He said the Conservatives have taken their strong position in the riding for granted - 1972 was the last time the Liberals held the seat - so they have the attitude that they "don't need to pay serious attention" to the riding.
Despite the Conservative's long hold, Levine contends the political landscape has changed and means to highlight the Conservative record of "bad governing," most notably the contempt of Parliament charges that led to a non-confident vote and the election.
Levine faces Green Party candidate Hilary Crowley, New Democrat Lois Boone and Conservative: Bob Zimmer in the election on May 2.
