Johnathan Botelho, a local 12-year-old Sacred Heart student, was chosen as one of 11 children in Canada to attend the Olympics as part of a worldwide program called McDonald's Champion Kids, with the program being offered to schools in Canada through the Go Active Fitness Challenge, a partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee to encourage more activity for students of all ages. The winning 11 from Canada get to attend - with a parent, all expenses paid - the Olympic Games for three days, tour the Olympic Village, visit cultural sites around Vancouver and meet Olympic athletes.

The Prince George Citizen has invited Johnathan to offer readers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Olympic Games through his eyes. Here's what Johnathan had to say Sunday before going to watch the Canada vs. US hockey game:

Hey guys! It's Johnathan.

Yesterday was a blast!!!!!!!!!! We had a welcome dinner for all the kids, and we got pins from Ronald McDonald to put on our jackets and clothes. Pin trading is so popular during the Olympics. I am having so much fun so far. I was talking to the kids from Europe. They're just like me - they love soccer. This morning everyone is dressed in Canada colours for the big game. There is crowds everywhere chanting Canada. I can't wait to get into the building. But this is so cool. We get to go in the athlete's village where not even the media or the public gets to go - SWEET!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to meet athletes. GO CANADA GO!!!!!!!!!
