The Call

Local artist and author Jae Waller will be launching her new young adult fantasy novel series, set in a world resembling colonial-era northern B.C.

The first novel in the series, Call of the Rift: Flight, will be launched with a book signing at Caf Voltaire at Books & Company this Wednesday, March 28 at 11 a.m.

Waller will also be doing a reading and Q&A at UNBC's Geoffrey R. Weller Library at 3 p.m. the same day. The reading will take place on the first floor in the fireplace area.

Waller grew up in Prince George, previously as Jessica Waller, and studied creative writing and fine arts at UNBC and the Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She also studied Japanese and French, as well as linguistics at UNBC. She worked at both Books & Company and the Prince George Public Library as a teenager, while studying at D.P. Todd Secondary. She now lives in Melbourne, Australia.

Flight, the first of a new five-book series, follows Kateiko, a 17-year old rebellious heroine from an indigenous nation, who faces a world of parallel universes that are coming unstitched.

A Kirkus star review described the novel as "an intricately lush and well-crafted new fantasy that deserves (and demands) a sequel."
