Ice continued to clog the Nechako River at Morning Place on Tuesday.

The situation did not worsen Tuesday and may even have improved a little for a trio of homes on Morning Place threatened by high water from the Nechako River.

"All indications are the river is stable actually receding slightly," Prince George Fire Rescue chief John Iverson said.

Firefighters will continue to monitor the river during the night and city staff will keep an eye on it during the day, Iverson said.

The homes remained behind sandbags as an ice jam at a bend in the river has forced water over its banks. A load of sand and more bags have been left with the homeowners after a city crew provided some initial help.
