Shortly before 2 a.m., fire crews from three halls responded to a reported structure fire in an apartment in the 2000 block of Central Street.

The fire was out on arrival.

"A neighbour from an adjoining apartment had alerted the occupants of smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom," said assistant chief Greg Wilkins of Prince George Fire Rescue Service. "The occupants managed to douse a mattress before any serious damage to the room or structure occurred."

Fire crews were able to clear the apartment of light smoke.

The cause of fire has been determined to be careless use of smoking materials. There are no reported injuries.
