B.C. Liberal leadership candidate Kevin Falcon has been endorsed by a pair of northern B.C. politicians.

Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm, a backbencher, and federal Senator Richard Neufeld declared their support for Falcon today.

Pimm said he has been impressed by Falcon's dedication to learning about northern B.C. and resource issues. "He consulted me closely on the creation of his northern prosperity agenda and accepted specific local input. That is the style of leadership we need in B.C. now," said Pimm.

Neufeld is the former B.C. Liberal cabinet minister for energy and mines and the former MLA for Peace River North.

Falcon unveiled some elements of his northern prosperity agenda on Monday, saying he will extend and increase spending on side roads important to rural residents and resource industries.

The B.C. Liberal government started several programs in 2009 to rehabilitate and improve roads: $50 million a year on Interior and rural side roads, set to end in 2012; and $47 million a year on oil and gas roads, ending in 2011.

The Liberal leadership opened up when Campbell announced suddenly nearly four weeks ago he was stepping down half way through his third term. Campbell acknowledged he had become a lightning rod for public anger, largely over the HST.
