Five-year-old Evan Warren spends hours in hospital getting treatment for his juvenile arthritis.
His eight-year-old big sister Audrey decided to fundraise to help purchase the toys offered as distractions by Child Life specialist Sandra Wyatt.
"I really believe Sandra is out of Hot Wheels cars because every time Evan is offered another Hot Wheel he takes one," said Natalie Warren, mother to Evan and Audrey.
To give back to the program Audrey decided to set up a lemonade stand to raise money for the Child Life Program.
After selling lemonade and ice tea by donation, as well as contributions from family and friends, Audrey raised $1,012.
"These funds will go directly to purchase new giveaways," said Wyatt. "It was a huge success, so much so that not only will we be buying hot wheel cars, her brother's favourite prize, but new video games for the older kids to enjoy while treatments take place. I already have ideas of where these funds will add value to the clinical programs while patients like Evan wait for their treatments."
"This is an amazing story of someone identifying a great cause and taking action," said Judy Neiser,CEO for Spirit of the North. "We are truly touched when someone so young comes
forward in such a philanthropic way. It really helps to bring best of care closer to home. We
couldn't be more grateful."
