Prince George kids interested in learning to skateboard can get a free lesson from the pros during the West 49 LRN2SK8 Tour.

Children five to 15 years old will be able to take part in a half-day introduction to skateboarding in an enclosed, mobile skateboard park. The tour will be at Pine Centre Mall in Prince George on Friday.

"We are beyond excited to get this program started and to see kids experiencing skateboarding in this environment," West 49 director Cindy Mielke said in a written statement. "Supporting and investing in kids in their local communities is extremely important to West 49..."

Participants will get lessons in skateboard tricks, boarding history and basic skateboard assembly and maintenance.

Then the burgeoning boarders will have a chance to put their new knowledge into practice on elements like rails, ledges, ramps and flat bars in a supervised and safe area. Skateboards and helmets will be provides for all participants.

At the end of the class, the participants will attend a graduation ceremony and receive a participation certificate. Participants will get a chance to take part in prize giveaways and contests as well.
