L.C. Gunn Park reopened Wednesday, one week after a deliberately set fire raged in the area.
The provincial Wildfire Management Branch informed the city on Tuesday that the fire was out after they cooled a couple of hotspots and cleaned their equipment.
Prince George Fire Rescue was informed about the fire shortly after 2 p.m. on July 16. They formed a unified command with the branch until the fire was located and assessed. At that point, the branch assumed command due to the fire's location and the need to fight it with air support.
One day later, fire investigators on the ground found eight to 10 locations along a footpath where fires were deliberately set. Police are still looking for the arsonist.
Anyone with information about who or what sparked the blaze is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca or Text-A-Tip to 274637 using keyword "pgtips."
