Landslide causing Highway 16 traffic delays west of Prince George

Single-lane alternating as crews investigate
Wilf Adam - Highway 16 west Vanderhoof Prince George
Commuters are backed up in both directions on Highway 16 west of Prince George near Bednesti following a landslide.

If you need to travel west of Prince George today (April 22), you may be in for a longer commute than normal.

On Wednesday (April 21), a landslide was reported along Highway 16 between Bednesti and Vanderhoof.

DriveBC says it took place between East Bay Road and Lloyd Drive for a one-kilometre stretch, which has since reduced traffic in the area to single-lane alternating.

A geotechnical investigation is ongoing into the cause of the landslide, but it's unclear when the road will fully reopen.

Commuters are being asked to slow down and follow the instructions of traffic control crews.

The next update, according to DriveBC, is scheduled for later this afternoon (April 22).

You can visit the provincial service's website for road updates and more information.
