Heather Lamb, vice-chair of the Northern Branch of the BC Association of Social Workers, is this year's recipient of the Bridget Moran Advancement of Social Work in Northern Communities Award.

Lamb got the award during the social work week celebration luncheon held Thursday at the Native Friendship Centre's Power of Friendship Hall.

Lamb was presented the award by Dawn Hemingway, chair of UNBC's school of social work and executive member of the northern branch of the B.C. Association of Social Workers.

"Her many community contributions include work with the Lions Club; serving on the local and provincial boards of the CNIB, on her strata council and for many years as a strong voice and advocate on the City of Prince George's Accessibility Committee - always seeking change to better meet the needs of those with disabilities and mobility issues - and across the lifespan whether young, old or in between...work that has improved the lives of so many," said Hemingway during her introduction to Lamb at the luncheon.

"Recently her experience was highlighted during the inaugural Inspiring Women Among Us events as part of a discussion panel called: The Crooked Path... that featured discussion of the winding paths that brought exemplary women to where they are today."

Lamb has also been named one of the Top 40 under 40 by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.

"I had the privilege of being her academic supervisor and seeing up close and from many different angles her passion, her commitment, her strong ethics and her determined, focused, meaningful advocacy and activism," said Hemingway.

"She is one of those incredible, humble, activist women who contributes hugely but does so quietly - with no fanfare and no expectation or solicitation of recognition - a selfless social worker contributing in the spirit of Bridget Moran."
