The Kiwanis AleFest, a craft beer tasting festival, will take place at the Two Rivers Gallery on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015.

The announcement came Friday, exactly a year to the date from the event.

The event will allow fans to taste high quality specialty and premium beers made by local B.C. and Yukon independent brewers.

There will be two tasting sessions featuring live music, craft beer information sessions, tapas paired to the featured beers, a silent auction and an art exhibit.

Featured at the AleFest will be Pacific Western Brewing Company, along with Barkerville Brewing Company in Quesnel, Three Ranges Brewing Company in Valemount, Wheelhouse Brewing Company in Prince Rupert, Yukon Brewing Company of Whitehorse and Penticton's Cannery Brewing.

"There is such an amazing world of more flavourful beers to be appreciated beyond mainstream

products," said Bjorn Butow, chair of Kiwanis AleFest. "Craft beer is about variety of flavours, higher quality, smaller batches all locally made by independent brewers."

The volunteer-run event is being organized by the Kiwanis Club of Prince George as an annual signature event to raise funds for local children charities and Kiwanis programs.

"We really believe Prince George is ready for this type of event, and the timing couldn't be better," said Don Gowan, area governor for Kiwanis. "The event coincides with the 100-year anniversary of Kiwanis International, and unofficially celebrates community milestones such as the 100-year anniversary of the city, the 25-year anniversary of UNBC, and the excitement of hosting the Canada Winter Games."
