The Family YMCA of Prince George hosts an annual Healthy Kids Day and run at Masich Place Stadium.

Good food, good exercise, good health are being passed on to kids by some good buddies.

A number of health and education agencies in the city have joined to teach older kids the fine art of modelling this healthful behaviour to younger student leaders, who in turn will pass that on to their schools.

Now in its third year, the "Kids Helping Kids - Healthy is Happy" program is back this week.

"The program focuses on student leadership in the areas of active living and healthy eating, utilizing a trimentorship model," said program co-ordinator and teacher Sue MacDonald. "High school students have received training prior to the event and will facilitate the day of training for the elementary leadership students who will develop a school-specific action plan and then take the information back to the younger students in their own schools."

The next training session for elementary leaders is today at the College of New Caledonia. All local schools are eligible to participate.

MacDonald said the program has also been invited for demonstration at the Global Summit on Physical Activity for Children being held in Toronto this May.
