Police are one step closer to unlocking a murder mystery. A set of keys might jingle some new clues loose for Prince George RCMP.

Police spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass won't disclose which unsolved homicide is at issue, but the keys play a role. This was first reported earlier this winter when investigators reached out to the public asking to hear from whomever found the keys.

"As a result of information received from the public following that media release, investigators now know that these keys were turned into the Salvation Army on Ospika Boulevard in Prince George," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "The Serious Crime Unit is looking to speak with the person who located these keys and turned them into the Salvation Army in August or September 2010."

Attached to the keys are a miniature bear trap, a Save-On-More tag, a War Amps tag, a leather Ford key chain and a photo tag of a young boy.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS / www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
