A local business owner has offered her city heart key chains as a fundraising tool to those wishing to support their local food bank.
Carol Hansson, who owns As You Wish Custom Designs, has already donated $1,720 to the Salvation Army food bank in Prince George and has raised a total of $2,500 as she offers the same service to people around the globe.
The key chain has a heart on it and has Prince George stamped on the round metal disk. Anyone making the purchase can ask for their city's name on the key chain and $10 of the $15 price tag goes to a food bank in their city.
"Whatever city I stamp on the key chain, that's where the money goes," Hansson said, who has created fundraisers using her stamping business before.
"To give to charity is my automatic reaction when something like this happens (coronavirus pandemic). So this was just the next thing."
Major Neil Wilkinson of the Prince George Salvation Army is grateful for the donation offered by Hansson.
"Not only do we appreciate the help on raising much-needed funds for the food bank but more than anything I am so grateful for the way this community comes together to bring hope as well," Wilkinson said. "It's not just about feeding people, it's also about doing good works in the community, especially in light of the potential negative impact of social isolation - emotionally and mentally - for people. Not only is Carol helping the community in practical ways, she is also raising awareness of a good news story to a new level."
