Kelowna is holding a slight lead over Prince George at the halfway point of the Canadian Blood Services' Drive for Life competition between the two cities.
The winner is the city that comes close to matching its particular goal as set out by the CBS.
After four weeks, 475 donations have been made in Prince George, amounting to 92.8 per cent of its goal by this point in the campaign. In Kelowna, 778 donations have been made, for 93.5 per cent.
Amy Erickson, the CBS's partnership specialist in Prince George, said the gap has narrowed considerably from the start of the contest.
"We were a bit slow at the start, but local blood donors have kicked things into high gear over the last two weeks," she said. "I'm calling on PG residents to help fill available openings and continue our strong collections trend."
In the past five years, Prince George has won three of five contests in 2008, 2010, and 2012; Kelowna was victorious in 2009 and 2011. The city that collects the most blood donations by Oct. 31 will be declared this year's winner.
