Jury chosen for manslaughter trial

A six-man, six-woman jury was chosen Monday to hear a B.C. Supreme Court trial for a Vanderhoof man accused of manslaughter in death of a teenage girl.

A six-man, six-woman jury was chosen Monday to hear a B.C. Supreme Court trial for a Vanderhoof man accused of manslaughter in death of a teenage girl.

Kayne Sabbe Penner, 29, also faces a charge of careless use of a firearm in the death of April Johnson, 18, who died in hospital from gunshot injuries suffered in a Dec. 20, 2012 incident in a home in the community 100 km west of Prince George.

The jury will begin hearing testimony at the Prince George courthouse on Tuesday morning.Crown prosecution intends to call 12 witnesses and the trial is expected to last five days.

A trial for co-accused Richard Borne, 39, who faces charges of careless use or storage of a firearm, improper storage of a firearm and knowingly possessing an unuathorized firearm, is scheduled to begin in May in provincial court in Vanderhoof.

Charges against the two were laid in June 2015.
