The province of B.C. has proclaimed June as Brain Injury Awareness Month and the Prince George chapter will be bringing awareness later this month.
A proclamation says more than 160,000 British Columbians are living with the outcomes of an acquired brain injury.
"The impacts of an acquired brain injury may affect the person’s mental health and cognitive, physical, psychological and social well-being, with potentially life-altering effects on their families, friends and significant others," the official document reads.
"The personal impacts to those living with an acquired brain injury—including losing quality of life, productivity and contribution to society—are vast.," the proclamation continues. "Designating June as Brain Injury Awareness Month in British Columbia may help to reduce incidents, promote education and awareness, and aid survivors of brain injury to rebuild their lives and achieve their maximum potential."
The Prince George Brain Injured Group says they will be hosting a vehicle parade on June 30. The event is still in the planning stages with more details to be released next week.
