The city enjoyed a warmer than usual July.

After a cool and wet start for the first four days, "summer kicked in," Environment Canada meteorologist Jim Steele said in a synopsis for the month.

Afternoon temperatures were at least 20 C every day thereafter, on 16 of those days it rose above 25 C and the average daily high was 24.1 C, two degrees above the norm for the time of year.

July 20 was the warmest day when the thermometer struck 30 C.

On the warmest day last July, the high was just 23 C, Steele said.

The average daily low of 9.2 C was above the normal of 8.8 C and the mean temperature of 16.7 C was above the normal 15.5 C.

The month's opening three days brought most of the rain, adding up to 18 mm, while the total for the month was 29.3 mm, less than half the norm. July 2 was the wettest at 11.7 mm and there was measurable precipitation on eight days well below the normal of 14.

Last year, July brought a whopping 112 mm of rain, Steele noted. For the year to date, total precipitation now stands at 302.2 mm, 89 per cent of the normal of 338.4 mm.

No new monthly or daily records were established.
