Prince George enjoyed a strong January on the construction front, according to a building permit report from city hall.
In all, 34 permits for $9.7 million worth of construction were taken out over the month, compared to 11 permits for $2.9 million last year and 20 permits for $3.5 million the year before.
A permit for $2.5 million worth of repairs to the Latitude apartment building at 3271 Westwood Dr. led the way.
A fire ripped through a section of the 32-unit building a year ago, forcing the evacuation of about 60 tenants, most of them temporarily.
As well, permits for $1.75 million worth of improvements to the Integris Credit Union at 530 Central St. E. and $410,559 worth of improvements to the Tim Hortons at 612 Central St. E. were taken out.
Looking at residential, 16 permits for $3.8 million worth of new single family homes were issued, compared to none by the same point last year and two for $410,853 over January 2012.
And a permit for a duplex at 468-470 Wainwright St., worth $530,100, was issued.
