It looked like the real thing

One 14-year-old Prince George youth had an experience he'll probably not soon forget when he was apprehended by RCMP for having a handgun in his possession.

The weapon turned out to be a handgun replica called an Airsoft pistol that shoots plastic balls, said Cst. Gary Godwin, media liaison officer.

"It is made of plastic, but it looks like the real thing and it can be very intimidating," Godwin said.

Following a report that a male was seen Sunday afternoon on Ford Avenue with a gun in his hand, police stopped the youth in front of the Great Wall Restaurant where he was arrested.

Godwin said the youth was not using the replica in any threatening manner.

"I don't know if he'll get his gun back, but it's doubtful that charges will be laid."
