In lieu of birthday gifts, young boy donates to library

For his fifth birthday this past May, Liam Williamson decided to give a present to the Public Library instead. He donated $150 to the library's children's section, the same amount his older brother, Martin donated last year.

For his fifth birthday this past May, Liam Williamson decided to give a present to the Public Library instead.

He donated $150 to the library's children's section, the same amount his older brother, Martin donated last year. For the past two years, the boys are given birthday money by relatives and friends and they donate it to different places or causes.

The library is a special place because reading has played a fundamental role in the boys' lives since they were young. Library visits occur once a month and Liam is excited that his donation will add more books to the children's collection. "It feels good," he said.

Their favourite author at the moment is B.C.'s own Kenneth Oppel, creator of the Airborn series.
