The BC Forage Council is hosting a free seminar in Prince George for farmers and ranchers looking to enhance their forage and grazing practices.

The seminar takes place Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and those interested in attending can register by emailing [email protected].

“It’s been too long since we were able to gather in person and learn from each other about the best

practices in forage and livestock production in our region,” said Serena Black, BC Forage Council general manager. “We want to give farmers the information they need to make the most of their resources – and highlight how these practices can be both economically and environmentally sustainable.”

Black will present the results of a regional no-till seeding demonstration project. Other presentations include a session on managing duel-purpose forage fields by Greg Tegart, a session on forage and grazing economics by Andrea Gunner and a session on incorporating cover crops by Mike Witt.

“Many of the producers in our region are already utilizing many of these principles,” Black said. “It can be a big risk for an operation to try something new and having the right information to try one or two new things can make a difference.”
