B.C.'s civilian-based police watchdog says it is investigating an incident in Tsay Keh Dene.

In a statement, the Independent Investigations Office said police were called to a report of a disturbance at a home in the community north of Williston Lake on Tuesday evening.

"It is reported that upon arrival, officers noted a locked bedroom door with a man inside who did not come out when asked," the IIO said. "When the officers entered the room, it is reported that the man had sustained a serious injury which appears to have been self-inflicted."

In a separate statement, B.C. RCMP said the man was taken to hospital and the woman mentioned in the initial report had been located safely.

The IIO is asking any person with relevant information, dashcam or other video footage of the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
