The deadline for submissions to a legislative committee reviewing the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has been extended by five weeks.

Originally set for Sept. 26, the new deadline is now Fri., Oct. 31, the committee said Monday.

"The committee has received some meaningful submissions and we would like to encourage further input from British Columbians," said committee chair Mike Morris, the MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie.

The IIO was established in 2011 as B.C.'s civilian-led agency that investigates incidents of serious harm and death involving B.C. police officers.

The Police Act requires a comprehensive review of the IIO's administration and general operations by an all-party special committee of the provincial legislature.

The committee will also hold a public hearing in Victoria on Oct. 29.
