The independent police watchdog has returned to the city following an early Sunday morning crash.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) was called after a 3 a.m. collision between a police car and side-by-side all-terrain vehicle on Northwood Pulpmill Road, between Clubhouse and Noranda Roads.

Prince George RCMP are carrying out a simultaneous investigation into the driver of the ATV and investigators are looking to speak to witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 250-561-3300.

This marks the third time the IIO has looked into a police-related incident in Prince George, with the most recent in March after a man fell down an embankment while being pursued by police .

The first was the same day the office opened following the fatal shooting of Greg Matters during a standing with the RCMP last September. The IIO investigation cleared the RCMP of any criminal wrongdoing and a coroner's inquest has been called to find ways to prevent those circumstances from repeating.
