The Independent Investigations Office has been notified following a Monday night stabbing in Prince George.

Around 11 p.m., two RCMP members were dealing with three pedestrians in the area of Third Avenue and Dominion Street.

One of the pedestrians had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. While the officers were taking the man into custody, he "sustained what appears to be self-inflicted injuries to his neck," according to an RCMP press release. An officer was also stabbed.

Both were transported to the hospital and a knife was seized as evidence.

The police watchdog are in the early stages of determining if the incident falls under their jurisdiction, the RCMP release said.

The IIO investigates police-related incidents causing death or serious harm.
