Hunting season brought out the Conservation Officer Service (COS) hunting for hunters' infractions.

Prince George and Vanderhoof were the areas of focus in the Omineca region during the November long weekend. According to Insp. Doug Forsdick of the COS, approximately 500 hunters were spoken with.

"Over 80 charges and warnings were issues during this time period," said Forsdick. "It was quite disappointing to see the number of tickets issues to hunters that were consuming alcohol while hunting. In fact, over 30 of the charges were related to the consumption of alcohol while hunting. In addition officers made 9 drug seizures."

Several tickets were also issued for transporting a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.

Other charges included failing to produce hunting licenses and Limited Entry Authorization documents, as well as failure to leave evidence of sex attached to a carcass, failure to cancel a species license, and hunting during a closed season.

"Investigations related to night hunting, a shot and left deer, and a cow and calf moose shot the day prior to the season were initiated during the weekend and are still actively being investigated," Forsdick said.

Hunters and outdoor users are encouraged to contact the Conservation Officer Service RAPP (Report All Poachers and Polluters) line at 1-877-952-7277 if they have any information regarding unlawful hunting or fishing activity as well as other environmental crimes.
