The identity of the deceased person located in the ashes of a building fire has been released.

The B.C. Coroners Service announced Tuesday that Prince George-area resident Johnathan Kyle Hansen, 27, was the man who died in a cabin fire on Oct. 25 in the vicinity of Isle Pierre Road and Highway 16 West.

"Mr. Hansen had been living in a cabin in an isolated wooded area near Gravel Pit Lake, about 35 kilometres west of Prince George," said the north's regional coroner Donita Kuzma. "On Oct. 31, family members attended at the cabin site and found it had burned to the ground. Because the area was so isolated, no one had noticed or reported the fire at the time."

It was not yet known that Hansen was a victim of the blaze.

"When the family members were unable to make contact with Mr. Hansen after their discovery, they returned to the site on Nov. 2 and found remains in the aftermath of the fire. Those remains now have been positively identified as being those of Mr. Hansen."

No evidence of foul play has been discovered, said Kuzma, but the Coroners Service and RCMP are continuing to investigate.
