Human remains were discovered by someone out for a Friday evening walk, not far from Hudson Bay Slough. Police have concluded that it is not a case of foul play.
"It was located in a wooded area near the Lombardi Trailer Park," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "In an area of bush, it is sometimes quite difficult to see anything there unless someone specifically walks right into it."
Douglass said there were "several indicators suggesting this was not a case of foul play," but would not disclose the identity of the body or the condition of the remains.
"We are confident we know who this is," he said. "It is an adult male. There were identifying features that gave us every indication it was a person who went missing in 2010. Next of kin has been notified."
Douglass said the proximity of the deceased person to populated areas, yet going undiscovered for so long, gives an indication of just how difficult it is to locate anyone who disappears without a clue as to their whereabouts.
"Something like this at least allows the loved ones involved some closure," he said.
