Human remains have been found near Tumbler Ridge, RCMP said Monday.
A Tumbler Ridge general duty RCMP member came across the remains when responding Saturday to a call of a suspicious fire in the Bull Moose Forest Service Road area.
They were later confirmed to be human by investigators, however the person has not yet been identified.
"The circumstances surrounding this discovery are being treated as suspicious at this time and the matter is still being actively investigated," North District RCMP Cst. Lesley Smith said.
