Huble Homestead Historic Site starts its season on May 21 with the return of public events.

Spring on the Homestead takes place Sunday, May 22 and Monday, May 23 for two days of games, crafts, guided tours, cheesemaking demonstrations, the traditional May pole dance while there’s an opportunity to learn about gardening. There’s always a great variety of locally-made gifts and old-fashioned candies to explore at the General Store.

The historic site is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September 5, with the season ending on October 9. Throughout the season there are scavenger hunts, special occasions like new event Hidden History celebrating Historic Places Day will take place July 8 and 9.

Taste of the Past cooks up delicious heritage food demonstrations on July 16, and the long-awaited return of Homicide on the Homestead: A Murder Mystery is scheduled for August 13.

Guests are encouraged to enjoy picnics and lawn games in the park’s open green spaces and be sure to have a look at the new temporary exhibit Fine Day: Exploring the Daily Records of Albert Huble, which is part of the first stage of a larger project examining and interpreting the Huble diaries. A document of Huble’s daily activities from mid-1909 to 1919, the diaries are a wealth of information about the people and happenings at Giscome Portage and Prince George; the exhibit will be on display until the last day of the season, October 9.

 Huble Homestead Historic Site is located on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh, 40km north of Prince George, just off Highway 97 on Mitchell Road. Admission is by donation, and dogs are welcome. For information on events and activities visit www.hublehomestead.ca or call 250-564-7033.
